The "Pure Blood" Races

Vanoran, the “People of the Beautiful Moon”

Tall and slender; the average man stands between 5'10" and 6'2", the average woman stands between 5'8" and 5'10". All Vanorans have pointed ears. Men of pure Vanoran blood do not have facial hair. Hair is either blond (pale or golden) or dark brown to black and generally straight or slightly wavy. Eyes are gray-blue, light green, dark green, or dark blue. Vanorans, while not immortal, can live for centuries and stop aging at around 28, at which time a Vanoran legally becomes an adult. Further aging does not occur until the loss or release of the nenuath (“Will to Live”), at which time the hair turns white. The strength of a Vanoran's nenuath is tied to the Star Houses. When the Star Houses are in power and strong, the average life span of a Vanoran is 700 to 800 years. When the Star Houses are not in power, the average lif span is only 200 to 300 years. Vanorans are the Children of the the Lady of the Moon and considered to be the greatest of the races.

Harinech, the “Mountain People”

Generally broad in build, though the people of the Fjordlands tend to be taller and slightly narrower than other Harinechs. The average man stands between 5'8" and 6' and the average woman stands between 5'6" and 5'10". Men have thick facial hair and typically wear long beards. Hair is in shades from light red to dark brown and wiry and curly. Eyes are varying shades of brown. The average life span is between 500 and 700 years, over which the Harinechs age very slowly. Harinechs are the Children of the Lord of the Mountains.

Kanaedar, the “People of the Sea”

Of average height and build; the average man stands between 5'6" and 5'10" and the average woman stands between 5'3" and 5'7". Men have facial hair, sometimes thick. Hair is in all shades of blond, red and brown. Eyes are in all shades of gray, blue, green, hazel and brown. The average life span is between 70 and 80 years. The Kanaedari are the Children of the Lady of the Sea. Note: Kanaedari spread south to Palano, but the two groups became estranged and developed different cultures and a "southern" dialect of their language. The southerners are called Saedar(i) or Saedese (in the common language of Palanor).

The "Mixed Blood" Races

Gandag, the "Treasure People”

1/2 Vanoran, 1/2 Harinech. Gandags favor their Vanoran ancestors in build and are usually slender. The average man stands between 5'6" and 5'10" and the average woman stands between 5'4" and 5'8". All Gandags have pointed ears and the men do not have facial hair. Hair is straight and most commonly a silvered-white, though some rare individuals have blue-black hair (these are called "Rukag" and 99% are women). Eyes are pale blue with dark blue around the inside and outside edges of the iris. Gandags have a life span of between 300 and 400 years. They have a partial nenuath; they maintain a youthful appearance for 250 to 350 years, until the nenuath becomes too weak to maintain youth. Gandags of Narok favor the Lord of the Mountains but also worship the Lord of the Sun while their southern Lomenoran ("Yrangese") cousins favor the Lord of the Sun.

Ancient Aranoran, “People of Skyland”

1/2 Vanoran, 1/2 Kanaedar.  The average man stands between 5'6" and 5'10" and the average woman stands between 5'4" and 5'8".  Hair is in all shades of blond, red and brown. Eyes are in all shades of gray, blue, green, hazel and brown.  Life span is between 150 and 200 years.  This race was thought to have been "bred" out of existence, but in reality still exists in the form of the Kendisaren.

Kendisaren, “Far Islander”

Direct descendants of the Ancient Aranorans. 1/2 Vanoran, 1/2 Kanaedar.  The Kendisarens are the shortest race of Ithilinor/Palanor, standing between 4'6" and 5' tall.  Like their taller anscestors, Kendisarens have pointed ears.  Hair is in all shades of blond, red and brown, though dark blond is by far the most common. Eyes are the darker shades of blue, green or brown.  The life span is between 200 and 300 years.

Aranoran/Suranoran, “People of Skyland/Sunland”

1/2 Kanaedar, 1/2 Ancient Aranoran (roughly 3/4 Kanaedar, 1/4 Vanoran), though the ratio varies with more Kanaedar blood.  The people of this race are typically of average height and build; the average man stands between 5'6" and 5'10" and the average woman stands between 5'3" and 5'7", though those with more Vanoran blood tend to be taller.  Men have facial hair, sometimes thick. Hair is in all shades of blond, red and brown. Eyes are in all shades of gray, blue, green, hazel and brown.

Lomenoran Half-breed

1/2  Vanoran, 1/2 Suranoran (roughly 5/8 Vanoran, 3/8 Kanaedar). Typically tall and of moderate build; the  average man stands between 5'8" and 6'0", the average  woman stands between 5'6" and 5'8".  All  half-breeds have pointed ears, though not as pointed as a full-blooded  Vanoran.  Men of stronger Vanoran decent do not have facial hair  although those of stronger Suranoran descent do.  Hair is blond, brown or black and straight or wavy.  Eyes are blue, gray, green or hazel.   The average life span is between 300 and 400 years.  Like the Gandags, Lomenoran Half-breeds have a weak nenuath and maintain a  youthful appearance until the last thirty to forty years of their life.
